I was fortunate to be accompanied by my trusty colleagues Felicia and Gina, and we were in awe as we stepped off of the ferry onto the little slice of heaven just miles from our city. Thompson Island is one of the charming Harbor islands just a short boat ride across the harbor from Boston Seaport. The island was all theirs for the event: they stayed in a sweet antique beach house up the hill from the ceremony site, which was set up in the shade of tall trees just off the beach, against the beautiful backdrop of the Harbor and a hazy Boston skyline. But enough about the setting--more importantly, I cannot say enough about this wonderful couple! They were a dream to photograph--so warm, relaxed and easy going, and concerned not with the pomp and extravagance of the wedding, but with what truly mattered--their decision to commit to one another for life, and the friends and family they had chosen to witness this union. They are the kind of couple who remind me how right two people can be for each other; they have the perfect mix of tenderness and playfulness, and they interact so naturally and effortlessly. You immediately get the sense that they adore each other, and are truly the best of friends--and what better way to start the adventure of marriage! After the beautiful ceremony by the water, we flew through family photos, and then made our way out onto the docks for some romantic shots. I loved the way they giggled as I directed Joe to dip and twirl his lovely bride. Oh and did I mention these two are stunning? Tina with her flawless golden summer skin and feminine slender frame, and Joe, sporting the perfect formula of 'tall-dark-handsome'-ness catching her up in his broad embrace...After they humored me with some "romance novel cover poses" (definitely not in their comfort zone, but they rocked them OUT), they made their way just down the beach to their cocktail hour on the lawn in front of the pavilion. The setting could not have been more beautiful. The Pavilion was open to the summer evening, and guests fanned out along the grounds, watching the sunset, playing lawn games, assembling adorable group photos. I even pulled the leading man and lady back out for some sunset photos, as the sky turned brilliantly pink, and the twinkling lights of the city came into view. It is among my favorite places I've shot: the charm and natural beauty of an island wedding--and still a touch of "home" with the city in which they met in view. The best of both worlds! Not only did they have a packed dance floor, a spread of delicious pies, a bonfire on the beach, and a "do it yourself" polaroid photo booth, their wedding night also boasted one of the most spectacular sunsets of the summer. It could not have been a more perfect evening, and more importantly, a more deserving couple. Thank you, Tina and Joe, for allowing me to photograph your amazing day...

This charming slice of the Cape has a special place in Amy's heart, as she grew up spending her summers there in Brewster, at her grandmother's cottage, which is just "down the beach" from Ocean Edge. Amy got ready in a cottage on a hill overlooking the sea, surrounded by her two sisters, mother, and sweet bridesmaids. With her long, lithe limbs and an abundant mane of brunette waves, she was a stunning sight once she stepped into her gown. The way it sheathed her slender frame, and fanned out at the bottom, set against the backdrop of the ocean's edge made her seem like she stepped out of the pages of a mystical mermaid tale! The ceremony was on the front lawn, the aisle strewn with pink rose petals. Amy's dad was emotional as he walked the eldest of his three daughters down the aisle, and I loved that, as they approached, Amy's mom whispered in my ear, "make sure you get a picture of Matt's face when he first sees her." He stood there solemnly, his five older brothers lined up at his side, and watched for her to appear on the front steps of the mansion. It was a moment I would not miss! After the ceremony, we were whisked down to the beach. Amy requested that we sojourn to the Western-most edge of the resort's beach, because it was bordered part of the beach Amy spent her summers exploring. After we braved the high sun for some photos against the glistening water, we went back to the front lawn for more family shots, and some romantic portraits through beautiful filtered evening light. After that, Amy and Matt were introduced into the reception in the Carriage House. After heartwarming speeches by both Amy's father and Matt's father, sweet parent dances, and a series of group photos on the balcony against a pink and purple sunset, the dance floor was packed all night by a very enthusiastic, fun-loving crowd with some stellar dance moves! But at the center of all the revelry, you could find Amy, snuggling quietly into the crook of Matt's neck, soaking it all in. It was an end to a perfect summer day by the seaside. Thank you Amy and Matt for giving me the opportunity to be there beside you!

The rooms speak volumes of these two remarkable people: from the eclectic collections, to the vintage furnishings, to instruments and sculptures and stacks of books and paint brushes...not only was there an artful touch around every corner, the sun-splashed rooms could not be more welcoming--and on this day, filled with happy, supportive friends and family. With her side-swept hair, porclain skin and 1940s kiss-me red lips, my camera was instantly in love with this beauty in a tube top! And then she put on her gown, so that she was standing in her craft-sewing-dressing room, folds of crinoline fanning out from her lovely silhouette, peeking into a mirror with her perfect lips in concentration. It was pretty much my getting-ready heaven! From there, Stephanie and her gorgeous gaggle of bridesmaids (and one fabulously dapper bridesman) made their way to St. Catherine of Genoa in Somerville for the ceremony. A grinning Greg greeted me with, "Liz, you're going to make me look manly in the pictures even when I start crying like a baby, right?" Gotta love him instantly! And sure enough, he could not hold in his emotion as his bride appeared in a bath of light in the doorway of the church. He looked at her this way all day long, sweeping her into his arms, and snuggling her close--the way every woman should be adored! And it didn't surprise me that he also showed great tenderness and affection toward his mother, and later, his grandmother, when he lead her onto the dance floor. After the ceremony, and photos with Stephanie's grandmother and cousins on the steps of the church, we crossed the causeway into gorgeous Nahant, for the reception at the beautiful and historic Nahant Country Club. After a whirlwind of portraits (record time for me I think!), the bride and groom joined their friends and family for a jovial celebration, as the sun came sparkling out, the radiance of its descent outdone only by Stephanie, who slipped into a slinky beaded silvery gown. I loved the look on Greg's face as she walked onto the dance floor in that dress. Stephanie and Greg, thank you for giving me the honor of documenting your beautiful day. Stephanie, your soft-spoken sweetness, sophistication and artful touches were not lost on me, and made the day such a pleasure to witness--and the same goes for your upbeat, affectionate, warm and fun-loving husband. Thank you for welcoming me into your beautiful celebration.

As her name suggests, Kathleen Doyle hails from a large Irish family, a close-knit clan of six siblings, and a big, bonny batch of nieces and nephews. An emerald green sign over the door to the family's charming gabled cottage reads "Fáilte," Gaeilge for "welcome," inviting you into their home, and onto their beloved island. Her parents live on the island year round, and her mother bakes and sells scones to businesses on the island. From her sunny kitchen, you might see grazing alpacas at the Manisses Animal Farm that borders their property, and just beyond, the deep green of the ocean. Yes. It is as dreamy as it sounds! The natural beauty of the island against a backdrop of a calm, cloudy sky was the setting for Kathleen and Greg's day. Because she is a dear friend of a dear friend of mine, I already knew of Kathleen's beautiful heart, but documenting her with Greg, surrounded by friends and family only gave me an even clearer picture of the extraordinary person that she is. She is a woman of a multitude of qualities, which are exemplified both in her personal life and in her work. She has all the best stuff: a huge heart, a deep devotion to her wonderful family, and a great compassion in caring for her patients. The work she does as a palliative care physician is immeasurable. And she found the perfect match in Greg, another brilliant mind with an equally big heart. The day was so packed with joy and laughter, there is too much to recount. Moments I loved were the colorful bustle of the girls getting ready, the hair curling and nail painting, the abundant food and laughter, visits from adoring friends--and later, the few quiet minutes back at the Doyle cottage with just Kathleen's parents and her maid of honor, Sarah. Following the ceremony at St. Andrew's Catholic Church and a festive bagpipe-lead exit from the church, the newlyweds and their wedding party processed behind the bagpiper through the streets of the island. Upon return to the Spring House, I was especially tickled to photograph the Doyle grandchildren, who used the hill as a body-sledding course, running and tumbling and skidding down on their knees. The girls held their pashminas up and ran into the wind, dresses whirling, in peals of laughter. And this was what it was all about for Kathleen. It was not about the glitz and glam, or being the one in the white gown in the limelight. It was about making a quiet vow to the partner she chose for life, in the little island chapel that means so much to her, with her loved ones encircled around her. And though she and Greg posed for me, and snuggled close under my direction on the hill beside the Spring House, it was beautifully obvious to me which moments they most cherished. It was there on her face as her father escorted her down the aisle, in the sideways glances she and Greg exchanged during the mass, in the way she threw her head back in laughter while posing for the many group portraits, and in the tenderness with which she snuggled her nephew close, and brought her niece into her arms to dance with her and Greg. It was in their laughter as they danced, the way the cheered for the live performance featuring Kathleen's brother on guitar and brother-in-law on the conga drum. It was on their faces as they thanked their guests at the end of the night. I am so happy to have helped to preserve those moments. Thank you Kathleen and Greg for your patience, but more importantly, thank you for welcoming me into your beautiful celebration. It was a truly an honor, and I wish you every happiness together.

Kelly and Lee's late autumn wedding was golden and glittery and full of family and love and laughter--essentially, everything that warms my heart and makes me grateful for this beautiful work that I do. As you can see when you roll out the images below, the day was breathtaking, all warm hues and textures, earth tones and natural light, vintage touches and handmade details--the stuff that makes me tick! I photographed Kelly's sister Alison's wedding a few years ago, so I am lucky to already be acquainted with this wonderful, kind-hearted family of beautiful blondes--four lovely golden-haired sisters, to be exact! So I met Kelly five years ago, when she joined her sister at her initial meeting. She is the littlest of the four sisters, and I was struck immediately by her honey-sweet personality and ever-present smile--so needless to say, I was absolutely delighted when she wrote to me a year and a half ago saying, "it's my turn!" Simply put, Kelly is pure sunshine. With her sparkly blue eyes that are always smiling, and golden head of hair that is so often tossed back in laughter, you can't help but be happy in her presence. She is the color of summer and sunshine, and with her ever-present welcoming smile, it is impossible to be in her presence and not feel the sweetness that surrounds her. And Lee. Humble and good-natured, Lee has a quiet presence when you first meet him. But his love for Kelly, and his pride and joy in making her his wife were so sweetly clear to me. I am always jonesing to do more portraits, but with so many formal photos to take, and racing against the light, I try not to ask too much of my couples and exhaust them with a million portraits...So one of my favorite moments of the day was after I had subjected Lee to a whole slew of sweet and kissy-cuddly "romance novel cover" portraits before the ceremony. Though he humored me the whole time, I could tell it wasn't his most "comfortable" experience (especially with some heckling by his hilarious, jolly group of jokester groomsmen), so after the ceremony I hastily asked if they wanted any more portraits, assuming they wouldn't. He conferred with Kelly for a moment about whether they should make use of the brief and lovely sunset over the lake for a few more shots, and to my surprise and pleasure, Lee said he would like to head to the water, that there was only once chance for this, and it was important to him. I can't explain it, but in that instant, I felt his sentimentality, and his love for his bride--this strong, burly, war veteran, firefighter tough guy, wanting to get the most out of his wedding day...it warmed my heart! {continued below}.

There were too many other meaningful touches and sweet moments to recount, but I will try to name a few. One of my favorite details was Kelly's gorgeous vintage fur stole that had been her great Aunt's. What made it all the more perfect, was when I went to photograph it, I saw that the label inside read, in delicate brown lettering, "Autumn haze." I discovered this when photographing it on it's vintage wooden hanger, in a tree, against a filtered autumn sky--the perfect branding for the gorgeous fall day! Kelly's other touches complimented the feel of the day as well: the vintage flair in her feathered caged veil headpiece, the sexy "hint of leopard" at the toes of her Kate Spades, the amber necklace that complimented her golden hair and sun-kissed skin, the delicate lace bodice of her gown...As for the moments that struck me, it was the laughter in the salon, the way Kelly's sister welcomed all the ladies into her home to get ready, the love surrounding Kelly as she stepped into her dress, the tenderness and calm of Kelly's mother, as she "saved the day" by literally sewing Kelly into her dress (malfunctioning clasp at "go-time" was definitely the most intense moment of the day!), the look on Lee's face as Kelly walked toward him for their first look, the sentiment on Lee's face when his brother delivered his toast, the twinkle in the blue eyes of Kelly's adorable nephews, all spiffed up in their tuxes (precious!), and of course, the light in Kelly's hair as she snuggled against her fella, and threw her head back in wonderful, genuine laughter. They exchanged vows just before sunset in the garden outside the Saphire Estate, and after watching the sun descend over the lake, they headed back up the hill for the party to start! And it was no small party; this is a family that is not shy on the dance floor, something I remembered from Alison's wedding. Not only were the sisters, wedding party, cousins, family members and friends out there stirring things up, Kelly's mom did not leave the dance floor (she is the best of all worlds: kind, nurturing, hilarious, and LOTS of fun), and the bride and groom themselves held up their "stars of the day" status by heating things up all night too. Of course, all of this made my job extra fun! It was one of those receptions that flew by for me in an instant because I was enjoying the crowd so much, and I adored the couple so. And now to you two, Kelly and Lee...I can't thank you enough for your patience in waiting for this collection, and I plan to make it up to you, first by the sheer gorgeousness of you in the photos that follow, glimmering and golden in low autumn light. You certainly made my job easy! You created a beautiful day in every way, and I was so lucky to have the honor of capturing it.

I am writing this from Central America, already past midnight and thus having just missed Valentines Day. We have been traveling for the last thirty-six hours, and though I have been compiling this slideshow for a few days, finding a trusty internet connection that supports a massive upload has been tricky (luckily I have a techy rockstar husband who somehow connected us remotely to my desktop at home). But as I curl up here in the dark, in the middle of the night in a hotel room that overlooks the Gulf of Panama and the first foriegn city to which I ever traveled alone (nineteen years ago), listening to the sounds of my three best-loved ones breathing, and recount the past year in photographs, I couldn't be more content with my frenzied, fast-paced, ordinary-but-enchantingly-so life. Even as I try to heed the promise to myself to cut back in the coming year, I am reminded, looking over these photographs, how very fortunate I am to do this job, and to have preserved these sweet and fleeting moments.

I'm gonna listen to some rock n' roll
No cares, come what may
I'm making a beautiful day

I'm gonna drive my car into the sea
swim out far cause I believe
that the waves will wash the gray away
I'm making a beautiful day

Oooh ooohh my my

Hey hey what's that you're saying
Lets not forget we're alive

When we all come together this song will play
We'll sing it's a beautiful day
And it's gonna be my beautiful day

I fell head over heels for these two, and I couldn't wait to capture their Ocotber wedding at the historic Hawthorne Hotel in downtown Salem. When I arrived on the doorstep of their home on the morning of the wedding, Kelsey opened the door and was instantly in tears. She and I bonded leading up to the wedding, and she said that my arrival made it feel real--a flood of emotion just hit her. It was the best greeting I have ever had! It warmed my heart and made me all the more eager to tell the most beautiful story of her day. And my goodness, that was an easy job! Kelsey and Steve are an amazing couple: deeply connected, kind-hearted, thoughtful (oh and not to mention my camera loves them)! Kelsey's sweetness is palpable. She is considerate, gentle, caring, humble, and fun-loving. She has a genuine warmth that is so darling and endearing. I loved seeing her laughing with the closest women in her life, who filled their sweet little house with music and laughter and so much love. Her best friend, future sister-in-law, and her niece were her three bridesmaids, and her mother and dear friend Sue helped her get ready, and were soon joined by more aunts and her grandmother--such a circle of support! I loved stealing photographs of Kelsey from the doorway of her room as she applied her own makeup--she said it was how she always did it, cross legged on the floor in front of the little gold mirror. Oh and by the way--this girl doesn't know her own fierce Top Model beauty! With her dainty figure, snowy skin, long, weaving dark locks and sparkly sapphire eyes, she looks like she stepped out of the pages of a Waterhouse painting or some Medieval verse in which fair maidens are swept off their feet by gallant knights on horseback (named Steve). And the dress she chose just furthered this fairy-tale, empire-waisted, romantic, billowy and exquisite...a secret wedding in a moonlit wooded glen would have been apt! Kelsey and Steve's love story goes back to their early college days in Colorado. They stayed there and completed Masters' degrees, and then Kelsey brought her Colorado boy back to her home-state of Massachusetts. When I first met with them a year ago, they had just settled into their lives here, in the charming sea-town of Marblehead. They chose the historic charm of downtown Salem and the Hawthorne Hotel for their ceremony and reception. There was a bagpiper heralding guests as they arrived for the ceremony, amidst the bustle of people visiting Salem at its most famed time of the year. After tearful vows in the ballroom, we dashed outside to the Salem Common for some photos in the blustery, but beautiful October evening. The park was teeming with people, many of whom were in costume, but somehow we managed to make it appear like Kelsey and Steve were the only two people in the world there under the white-lights twinkling in the trees. After family portraits and some fun bridal party shots, it was back to the hotel for the real party to start! There were sweet tributes (Steve's dad's heartfelt toast), lots of warm-fuzzy moments (seeing Steve's grandparents dance the night away in each other's arms), and fun, impressive moves on the dance floor (even a dirty dancing lift attempt!). Over all, it was another evening that reminded me how lucky I am to do this work. Kelsey (my "little sis"), you are a darling, and have a special place among the lovely ladies who light up my lens ;) I wish you and your handsome husband so much adventure, laughter and happiness--you deserve it!

Alyse and Dave have a love affair with the magic of fall in New England, and they knew they wanted a wedding rich in every charm fall in New England has to offer. This ambiance was everywhere: in the crisp air, in the mugs of hot apple cider handed to guests upon arrival, in the assortment of delicious pies laid out at the reception, and of course, the in the vibrant backdrop of gold, red and amber of the changing leaves. I had been anticipating this mid-October day since meeting with Alyse and Dave last winter. Over a few hours, courses of delicious tapas, many anecdotes and much laughter, I came to know this amazing, well-traveled, well-tasted (they are foodies!), and well-learned pair (he is a lawyer, she a doctor of Audiology). Dave was the first to contact me; he had as much of a hand in planning the wedding as his bride (this was no groom who was told to just show up!). Alyse is driven, quick-witted, deliciously sarcastic, and fun-loving (not to mention she has a flawless complexion and a stunning smile). Dave is one classy guy; he is smart, enthusiastic, thoughtful and good-natured, but what struck me above all was how elated he was to marry his girl. When she stepped out of the doors of the estate, his reaction was, essentially, the sweetest reminder of why I do this work.
Though the day dawned overcast, the clouds parted just as finishing touches were put on Alyse's hair. From that moment on, it was blue skies and full glorious sunshine. I was fortunate to have my pal and talented photographer Tony Yu at my side, busting out lenses left and right and carrying the antique couch I brought along as a "prop" (it was perfect!). As the couple envisioned, it was pure New England beauty, set against the the most perfect backdop, the house and breathtaking grounds of the Stevens Estate in North Andover. Alyse and Dave did not settle on any part of their celebration; they interviewed many vendors, and scoured Massachusetts venues to find the perfect setting for their nuptials. None were just right until they came up the windy drive and beheld Stevens Estate, perched grandly at the top of Osgood Hill, with its sweeping grounds, rustic outbuildings, and stately brick mansion. Both Dave and Alyse hail from Jewish families, and upholding Jewish marriage traditions was very important to them and their families. Their Rabbi came a long way to perform their beautiful sunset ceremony under the colorful chuppah, as their parents, siblings, and attendants stood beside them.
With abundant thoughtful and personal touches, natural, rustic beauty, meaningful cultural traditions, and of course, a menu and dessert spread to die for, it was a very special affair. The food alone deserves a blog post! There was a very popular raw bar (practically gone by the time I arrived to photograph it), a mouth-watering pizza bar, exquisite entrees, and later in the night, an assortment of heavenly pies that made it feel like Thanksgiving! Of course, Dave and Alyse chose only the best of the best for their DJ as well, the talented, classy Chris Saraiva of DJ Entertainment and Lighting. Chris had the party started and everyone up and dancing immediately upon Dave and Alyse's entrance, and again in between courses. That revelry continued all night, first with a spirited Hora, and hours of joviality and fun until Dave and Alyse were escorted from the tent and into the waiting Rolls Royce that was a surprise from their parents. It was the perfect end to their day, and I was able to light the pitch black night enough to capture one more photo! It was a beautiful event in every sense, and it has been an honor to tell the story of the day through my photographs.

ABOUT MEhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14462475360216036119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33494255.post-77060345498711901502013-11-30T14:56:00.001-05:002013-11-30T14:56:24.904-05:00Meg and Mike {Kinney Bungalow Wedding, Narragansett, RI}I am smitten with Mike and Meg. Smitten. Everything about their romantic sun-soaked September wedding was perfect: the charm of the beautiful Rhode Island setting, the rich colors of the flowers and exquisite details, the gorgeous gaggle of bridesmaids, the wonderful, doting families, the most heavenly venue, Kinney Bungalow, plunked in the middle of a rustic farm, and lit up in the middle of golden fields, the firey sunset that infused the room with pink and orange and gold....I could go on and on. But above all, it was the fact that Meg and Mike are the most darling pair EVER that sealed the deal for me. They are the kind of couple that make you feel good just being around them, from their constant smiles, to their baby blues, to their adorable interplay (Meg is so sweet and sophisticated, Mike so happy go lucky, twinkly-eyed and funny).
Mike takes the term "good guy" to a new level. He is good-natured, affable, affectionate, up for any adventure, not to mention considerate and kind. Total "perfect husband" material (like my very own Perfect Matt)! He is very affectionate, and loves any opportunity to snuggle and romance and dance with his girl. Meg has the sweetest, most gentle nature. She is also very organized, successful, and driven. She is a little more reserved when it comes to "in front of camera" displays of affection--but I loved seeing how Mike knew how to swoop into her "dance space," melt her defenses, and make her into his romantic co-star. And what was extra awesome was that photos were important to them, and so they put time and thought into planning for their portraits, and they knew exactly what they wanted!
I'm going to stop right here and use this opportunity to say: the gorgeousness that follows is what you get when you allot TIME for photos on your wedding day. It is ALL ABOUT giving me TIME to work my magic. This post goes on for miles; I couldn't decide which images to feature because there is such abundance--and it is all because I had so much time and willingness from the couple to capture photos that aptly reflect their connection and the beauty of the day (though the fact that we had gorgeous light, gorgeous locations and a gorgeous couple didn't hurt :)
I can't help but list some of my favorite moments of the day (and please excuse the sentence fragments that follow)...The houseful of gorgeous ladies in flowery robes dashing about in a flurry of preparation, and gathering around Meg as she got ready (cameras poised, oohing and ahhing), Mike's sister's precious little girl Elizabeth with her huge, beautiful eyes, bopping around in her purple polka dot dress. The vivid blue of the sky against Mike's family's church, Mike's tears as he watched his bride walk toward him, Meg's adorable nephews standing solemnly on either side of the priest as he officiated the vows. The laughter as Meg and her girls walked down the hill of the house overlooking the shore, the "pure Rhode Island perfect" views from that hill, the adorable performance of Mike and his groomsmen as they posed for photos with their colorful socks. Pulling into Kinney Bungalow with its panoramic windows and views of the aptly named Sunset Farm, Meg's grandparents sitting contentedly in chairs in the field, a glimpse at a lifetime of love and partnership. The sunlight in Meg's hair as she leaned against the fence and Mike kissed her neck, the sunlight in Meg's hair as Mike pushed her on the swing in front of Kinney Bungalow, the sunlight in Meg's hair as Mike dipped her between rows of glistening tomato plants at sunset. The way Mike scooped his bride into his arms during the first dance, encircled by a room full of friends and family. Whew. There is so much to trumpet about Meg and Mike's day, I could go on forever.
But even my grandiloquence falls short--since words do not aptly capture it, I am happy to have an even better way of telling the story of this beautiful day. Thank you to my amazing, talented co-shooter, Tony Yu, who helped me fully capture the beauty of this day. Meg and Mike, it brings me so much joy to present these to you. Thank you for waiting so patiently, and for being such a burst of beautiful sunshine in my wedding line-up this season.

They were married on Rowes Wharf overlooking the Boston Harbor just before sunset on a beautiful mid-September evening. Like it's leading couple, the wedding was no ordinary affair. It was white orchids and satin slippers and croquembouche. It was some breezy Greek Isle meets Old Hollywood glam. Jackie visited France in the year before the wedding, and happened upon the custom silver headpiece and bracelet, which would inspire her look. Instead of a veil, she wore a crown of orchids woven into the delicate silver vine-work of the head piece. Instead of a traditional bouquet, she had orchids trailing from the bracelet. She found the one bakery in Boston who would make croquembouche, an authentic French pastry tower. Everything about the wedding stood out to me, Jackie's "stepped out of another era" soft, flowy, flaxen-haired glam look, the wispy gown with it's trailing sashes ("props" as Jackie called them), the simple, sophisticated details, the adorable first dance to the song "Cheer Up Charlie" from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Jackie is an old friend, with whom I share some wonderful memories. We were theater and literature nerds together, and we both chose to move to Boston from our small Connecticut hometown. Jackie is a rare gem of a person, all at once wise, organized, sophisticated, adventurous, intellectual and artistic. With Jackie I could be raw and real, melancholy and giggly, my deep, brooding poeting self, or my wacky, upbeat, scattered self. It was an honor to be by her side again on her wedding day, laughing at her wonderful brand of wit, reveling in her open-armed, good-natured, oh so refreshing presence. If I may side-track for a moment: no matter how many years pass, one thing I can always bank on is that Jackie's hair will fabulous. Once a mane of thick, sandy waves, to a sleek pixie, it is now a soft, flaxen Marilyn bob. The very first time she ever decided to lop it off, I was at her side. I can still remember the slicing, almost crunchy sound of the giant loping shears, as I cut through her voluminous tresses. It wasn't right, so we cut for hours, and eventually ditched the scissors all together. She kinda shrugged her dainty shoulders and said, 'what the hell, let's just do this'...and we buzzed it. SHE IS THAT AWESOME. She kept it super-short and snazzy for years. Fast-forward sixteen years, and I was beside her on her wedding day, holding a camera instead of scissors, and fixing my lens on her gorgeous amber eyes. After the beautiful ceremony on Rowes Wharf, we raced through many combinations of family photos, and the crew kindly stalled for a few minutes so I could steal some sweet shots of the newlyweds on the Old Northern Ave Bridge. We grabbed a few more very low-light shots on the upper deck once the Seaport Elite set sail, and then Jackie and Pete were introduced and shared their adorable first dance on the middle deck, encircled by family and friends. I was so happy to see Jackie with Pete, who could not be a nicer, more genuine fella, embarking upon her next adventure, marriage and law school! I realize that the bulk of this post turned into a personal trumpeting of Jackie's awesomeness. But ya know what's even more awesome? Pete would fully agree! He's a lucky man, and he and Jackie have a beautiful life ahead, rich in laughter, love and adventure. So at long last, take a gander at some photos from their snazzy, one-of-a-kind nuptial affair!

To put it into words is to come up short; it was almost too lovely to convey in the modest confines of English. Some other romance language would be more apt. But since this is the language I possess, I will humbly attempt to do the wedding, and this amazing couple justice...and then let the photos speak for themselves! I will begin by transcribing a conversation that occurred between me and my amazing-to-the-max second shooter, Tony Yu only an hour into the day.
Tony: Did you see the guys? They're wearing hats. It's like...whoa.
Me: Dude. This entire wedding is 'like whoa.'
See? Words come up short. To even begin to describe being at the wedding of Javin and Tom is to fancy yourself floating on a cloud of silk and pink petals, to set yourself adrift back through the decades to a day where car horns made that distict HONK and men wore dapper suits and opened doors for prim and polished ladies who wore stockings even in summer and looked up at you Daisy Buchanan-style from under dreamy lashes and delicately adorned hats. It was magical. Oooh-ahhhh worthy down to every last dainty detail. It was hatboxes and pearls and feathers and crinoline. It was afternoon tea and birdcage netting, floral prints and the palest pink...and you just wanted to speak like Lady Grantham all day!! I wore a feather headpiece and a too-tiny dress (because it had vintage flare) and soaked it all in through via rapid camera fire.
Javin's orchestration of the day was flawless. Javin looked like she stepped out of the pages of a vintage glamour magazine, with her flaxen hair in an immaculate updo and her dramatic movie star makeup with bombshell magenta lips. She was like Marilyn looking down through heavy lashes, which fluttered back up to reveal their vivid blue. She is a talented dancer and dance teacher, and her show went off without a hitch! The backdrop for the festivities was the elegant English-style manor, Lord Thompson Manor in Thompson, CT. Javin honored her Greek heritage by choosing to have the ceremony at the Greek Orthodox Church she had attended since childhood. The mass was attended by at least ONE HUNDRED of Javin's dance students, all wearing fancy headpieces in honor of their inspirational teacher! Javin put so much of herself and her beloved Tom into their celebration, and the abundant sentiments and thoughtful touches showed in every last aspect of the day. Every detail was specially sought-out and meaningful: the bouquet made of broaches lovingly collected for years (family heirlooms, discovered gems) the custom-made fascinator hats Javin and her girls all wore, even Javin's own grandmother's delicate veiled wedding hat, which was displayed at the reception in it's original hatbox. It was a day of the purest, most heartfelt emotion. There were just too many sweet moments to name: the letter Tom wrote to his bride in elegant script on pale pink paper, their tearful first look in the garden, interactions between Javin and her precious niece and flowergirl, Harper, the picture the priest pulled out, a drawing Javin had done when she was a little girl, Javin's dance with her dashing grandfather (who had moves!), the talented trio who brought the cocktail hour to life, Tom's charismatic brother's lively speech (in which he delighted Javin's mom by speaking in Greek), and the true show-stopper, the fabulous, inspiring flash Mob Dance Javin choreographed that was performed by the entire wedding party...to name only a few!
To bask in Javin and Tom's celebration was to drift out of the humdrum of every day life, and believe for a day in true love and romance, where everyone is light on their feet and strings of lights twinkle against the early summer dusk. June was in the air. The honeysuckle was in bloom, and the world was lush and flowering and verdant. With the most enchanting surroundings, most delicious food, and the most attentive staff, Tony and I fell in love with Lord Thompson Manor. And more importantly, we also fell with this amazing couple. Javin and Tom put so much love and creativity into their day, and that came through in every aspect of the day. And after much excessive ado (apologies for my grandiloquence!), here is the result. Prepare yourself for an onslaught of prettiness (and probably the most photos I have ever squeezed into a single post ever!)...

Everything about the day was perfectly planned and executed, and it was such an honor to have the chance to document it. Gina is a fellow photographer, and has an exquisite eye for detail, and the creative touches were abundant all day. She was "photo ready" even before stepping into her gown, with her golden skin, silky white robe, and rhinestone-licious, zipper-back heels (LOVED THEM), and so we did a few sexy shots first. To me, Gina was the "perfect bride." She was composed, sweet-natured, funny, and genuinely enjoyed every minute. She has this quiet confidence that is so refreshing--and she has a smile that is both sweet and endearing, and at the same time, alluringly sultry! Gina's bridesmaids were her biggest fans (well, besides her smitten groom), and they were protective of her, cheering for her, and obviously just so devoted to their girl. One of the best moments of the night for me was when the ceremony music started. Matt walked down the aisle, escorted by his elegant grandmother, who looked up at him and adorably kissed his hand. And when Gina stood at the end of the aisle, that's when all the tissues came out. You just had to look at Matt's face to recognize the intensity of his love for his wife-to-be, and how much that moment meant to him. Matt's spunky, charismatic, and absolutely lovely grandmother performed the ceremony. The last thing she did after the vows was put Hawaiian leis around their necks, symbolizing their union--and their much anticipated honeymoon to Hawaii! It was then that I RACED against sunset to grab as many photos as I could. We shot formals in the most open area we had (the driveway), and scampered down to the lake for a few more--the sun had dipped over the horizon, but there was a soft twilight glimmer across the lake. Then I raced like the wind to shoot the wedding party and family in the very last moments of light--it was probably the quickest I have busted out formals to date. And then it was time to head into the lovely Saphire Estate for the real party to begin! After hilarious intros, a touching first dance, heartfelt toasts and sweet parent dances, the dance floor opened up, and the party started! The moves there on the dance floor were impressive and wonderfully entertaining. The charismatic groom has game, and he OWNED the dance floor (his only true competitors were his close family members: his dad had MOVES, and his adorable sister was right up there with him, charming everyone on the dance floor, and making sure no one else had any chance at catching that bouquet). Inspired by the talents of Vinnie Procopio of Bash Entertainment, the revelry went on all night. It was just as much of a pleasure to watch Gina and Matt's tender, funny, and sexy dynamic through my lens there on the dance floor as it was to watch them snuggling and laughing and popping champagne on a midsummer night for their engagement session...Gina, you found an incredible, loving man, and Matt, you are one lucky fella to hold this gorgeous, creative, confident woman in your arms! I am so happy for you two, and wish you so much joy as you start your married life together.

It was a Boston wedding from start to finish, featuring some of our city's most beloved, historic settings: the famed Park Plaza Hotel, the immaculate Public Gardens, and one of Boston's grandest, most honored sanctuaries, the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in the South End. It was Boston at its finest (and most romantic!) and it was the perfect backdrop to feature the wedding one of my sweetest couples to date: loveable Dina and her adorable fella, Mark. Not to be too mushy-gushy, but hot damn, these two are the best. They are the sweetest balance: Dina is chatty and smiley and vibrant, often scrunching up her nose and throwing her gorgeous head of rich dark hair back in adorable laughter. And Mark, conversely, is quiet and even-tempered, but always with a smile, and a kind word to give. Dina's suite at the Park Plaza featured nearly as much square footage as my house, and contained a flurry of gorgeous girls fluttering around in flowery robes. Dina, ever the Best Bride, asked again and again what she could do to help me (wait, what? So unnecessary and sweet!). And she could not more of a dream to photograph! She took the breath of everyone in the room when she stepped into her stunning wispy-flowy feathered-bodice ball gown. (Pardon my language, but it was a dress so kickass that it made me wonder how it was possible that my own wedding dress contained no feathers? It was an "I need a do-over" moment!). The dress fit her tiny frame like a glove. I loved how her spirited, sunny, laughing (and dancing) nature continued from her suite, onto the street, into the trolley, and up the steps of the cathedral. Mark waited solemnly at the other end of the epic aisle, but once his bride appeared in the massive doorway in a wash of sunlight (exposure nightmare, but what a moment!), he was all emotion. After a beautiful ceremony, and an exuberant exit out of the cathedral doors and into the evening sunlight, we hurried to the Public Gardens to bust out formals as fast as we could before the sun dipped over the horizon. After, we piled back onto the trolley and flew back to the Park Plaza for the real merriment to begin. And with the striking décor, uplighting and entertainment by the charismatic D.J. Joshua Wiseman of Allstart Entertainment, one if the most hilarious toasts I have heard by Mark's older brothers, the packed dance floor, and colorful traditional Greek dances, it was one amazing celebration. Dina and Mark, thank you for giving me the honor of capturing your day. Thank you for being the kind of couple that makes my job a dream, and for so kindly asking me how I was doing and what I needed (my goodness! I should be doing that for you!), and please know how much that kindness means to me. It was a pleasure getting to know you two gems, and I am so excited to finally reveal the loveliness I captured on that perfect August evening.

Apologies in advance here because I am going to post an obnoxious amount of glamour shots of her. Actually no, I do not apologize, because I am giving you something infinitely pretty to look at. You're welcome.

Let me bring you back to the gold of a mid-summer morning, to the much-anticipated, show-stopping wedding of Alyssa and Barry. It was a blue-skied midsummer's day at a dream venue, Saint Clements Castle in Portland, Connecticut (I know how dreamy it is first-hand as it was the site of my own wedding eight Augusts ago!). Yup, a castle on a cliff overlooking the Connecticut River, fitting for an English gentleman and his lady. It was storybook. Star-crossed. A tale of two teachers (born and raised a continent and ocean apart), who fell in love. As I have said before, Alyssa had me "at first email." When we started communicating over a year ago, I kind of fell hard for this pair, long before we ever met. And like it's leading lady, this wedding had STYLE. It was tall blinged-out heels and argyle sock shenanigans, stringed instruments and sunflowers. It was the color of sunshine, and the bride, sunshine personified. It was chevron and gingham. It was words in pretty fonts strewn everywhere, on a page, on open books, on a vintage window, on a fan, all over the tables. It was paper hearts on a book mark, and hardcover books tied with thick blue satin ribbon...It was dapper lads and sassy ladies in fabulous yellow heels. It was a sense of romance in the air, and energy and laughter.

After an adorable first look, and rapid-fire rounds from me to try to conquer formal portraits before guests arrived, Alyssa and Barry exchanged witty, heartfelt vows against the backdrop of the river, in full streaming mid-day sunlight. Their fun-loving wedding party was up for anything, and humored me with silly portraits (see montage below). And then it was into the castle walls for the reception! Alyssa and Barry charmed their guests with some snazzy and funny dance moves, followed by some romance! Barry was everywhere: down on his knee before her, dipping her low, and sweeping her up into his arms. Barry's groomsmen's speeches were among themost entertaining I've heard, though whether it was the lovely English lilt through which they were delivered or the actual content, I cannot recall. (I jest, those were some HILARIOUS and cleverly delivered anecdotes.) And after an endearing, adorable thank you (complete with epic scroll) from the bride and groom themselves, the merriment began, and everyone joined the newlyweds on the dance floor, and danced like it was midnight, not mid-day.

Alyssa. Thank you for letting me look at you through my lens all day. For being walking, smiling sunshine. Your sparkle. Your energy. Your sexiness. The talldarkhandsomeness of the dapper Englishman on your arm. Every last artful, thoughtful touch that made the that castle your own (and brought my own memories of eight Augusts ago flooding back). And Barry, you are her match in darlingness! Your smiling eyes and endearing nature made you a joy to photograph. Thank you both for letting me be there beside you preserving it all. For making my job a joy. For allowing me the pleasure of capturing the awesomeness that is Mr. and Mrs. Smith: chapter 1.
Love,
your penpal, Liz

It didn't hurt that it was the peek of summer. It didn't hurt that it was a stunning July day. It didn't hurt that it was an exceedingly pretty batch of bridesmaids in the loveliest pale green that made their skin sing. It didn't hurt that Christina looked like she stepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine, with her mane of shining raven hair, sparkling eyes and movie-star smile. But mostly, it was because of everything I didn't name above. What really made the day sizzle was the joy and love in the air, the laughter and smiles that pervaded every minute. It was the fact that Christina was a dream bride--not just in the sense that my camera LOVES her, but but that she is the most lovable person. That movie-star smile could not be more genuine--she was elated and loving every minute of her day, and the friends and family gathered around her. Christina got ready at her amazing, energetic grandmother's house, along with her mother, bridesmaids, and two lovely sisters. I sought out a special place to photograph Christina's shoes, atop some old sheet music that had belonged to her grandfather, who was an orchestra conductor and violinist. In fact, her grandfather was a special part of the day; though his health only allowed for him to attend the ceremony, his presence was extremely important to Christina, and she decided to hold off starting the ceremony until the ambulance transporting him had arrived (quite late). And he beamed proudly through the entire ceremony, and even more after, when his granddaughter bent down to kiss him. There were a number of other grandparents in attendance, as well as the many, many members of Christina and Jake's multifaceted, doting families. I loved how Jake hammed it up for the camera, busting out some bad-ass poses with his posse of groomsmen, and surprising me by suddenly sweeping his bride up into his arms (not my idea for once!), spinning her, and dipping her--a groom the way I love em' to be!! The Merrimack Valley Golf Club was transformed into a Hawaiian resort, complete with tropical flowers, pineapple centerpieces, sand dollar place cards, and pink and purple uplighting by Jimmie Espo of Move It Music. Everything about the day was beautiful and moving from start to finish. Christina and Jake, I am so happy your honeymoon to Hawaii was just as magical as your "tropical paradise" wedding (you brought the tropics to us!), and I am so happy to at last reveal some of that magic that I captured for you!

Tess got ready with her parents, sister, and best friend at her parents' charming home. As a lover of craftsman architecture and antiquated charm, it was a delight to be able to shoot there: beautiful stonework, vines draped everywhere, nooks and crannies, surrounded by the most lush, well-loved gardens. Competing with Tess for the limelight was her precious-to-the-brim niece Harper, who toddled around in her fluffy silk dress, melting the hearts of everyone around her all day. It was almost too much cuteness to handle, and I couldn't keep my lens off of her. The tent at Stevens Estate was open to the hot summer evening, and guests fanned out across the grounds as the sun set over the hill. As the tent cooled, the party moved inside, and the dance floor was crowded all night as the talented fellas of the band Business Time rocked the tent all evening. It was a summer wedding at it's finest, complete with a grand sparkler exit sending the newlyweds off into the balmy July night. Thank you for the pleasure of capturing your beautiful summer wedding, Tess and Dave!

Shannen and Zac are too adorable for words. They were a dream couple to photograph, and their awesomeness and sweet natures easily came through in the photographs (as well as more than a little GLAM, Shannen could not be more gorgeous--and her luxurious head of hair stops you of breath and strips you of words). 2.) I think their session can actually be summed up quite well in list format. This shoot was NO JOKE awesome. It was fast-paced, wide-ranging, and all-encompassing, from the charm of the neatly manicured public gardens, to the grit of a dirty alley, to the dead fish-strewn pier along the waterfront, we had it all. It was a race against sunset, with the occasional mishap, some drama, and even a little danger. So for the first time ever, I am taking a statistical approach:
Number of people who yelled at me while I was shooting: 4 (cop on a bike, old lady, guy in a truck, guy on a motorcycle).
Number of backseat "costume changes" performed by rockstar couple Shannen and Zac: 4
Number of photos taken of me by crotchety woman who is apparently "doing a documentary" about unwanted "foot traffic" on Acorn Street in the back bay: 1000
Number of red lights I ran trying to navigate around the city to park: 3
Number of dead fish I almost stepped on while getting "the shot" on Boston Fish Pier: 4
Number of drinks we had to order at No Name restaurant to validate our $49 parking (after accidentally parking when the $4 lot was out of tickets): 3
How ridiculously awesome the shoot was on a scale of one to ten: 10
Aaaand that pretty much sums it up. I loved every minute with these two!! Shannen and Zac, I wish you the most perfect day for your Arizona wedding. I feel so fortunate that I got to have you two in front of my lens against the backdrop of city where you fell in love.

They chose one of the most romantic locations in the city for their spring wedding, the gorgeous Boston Harbor Hotel, a landmark along Boston's waterfront, built on Rowes Wharf, one of the oldest wharfs in the nation. Boston was a destination wedding for them, as they have settled in Stephen's home state of New Jersey. Jumari, however, was raised in Boston, so she "came home" for her wedding. In keeping with grand historic landmarks, they chose the majestic Cathedral of the Holy Cross in the South End for their ceremony. Not only is the cathedral Boston's largest and most prominent Catholic house of worship and the home of Boston's Archdiocese--it is also Jumari's childhood parish! She grew up just down the street, so it was a sentimental (and grand!) backdrop to exchange marriage vows with Stephen. And I am quite sure it was the biggest church I have photographed--the walk down the aisle seemed to take forever! Luckily, I had my friend and photographer extraordinaire Tony Yu shooting alongside me, and he stationed himself at the mid-point of the epic aisle. It was an honor to photograph a wedding ceremony in such hallowed walls, especially since it was commemorating the union of such a terrific couple. Stephen and Jumari's families are amazing--there was abundant love and closeness every minute, and many sweet, tearful moments. Highlights for me were the love Jumari and Stephen share for their little princess, their ridiculously adorable fluffy little pup, Faith (check out the Coach collar with heart pendant that Stephen gave to Jumari the morning of the wedding!), the emotions running high as Jumari walked the long aisle (a vision of elegance in her sweeping gown), the adorable nieces and nephews running around (and leaping and prancing and twirling, see shots of the dancing little lasses), Jumari and Stephen's sultry dance to Miguel's "Adorn," the strongly-felt presence of Jumari's father: present in photographs, in song, and in Jumari's tears as she danced with her brother while a photograph of her and her father dancing at her Quinceañera flashed on a screen, the way her bridesmaids immediately encircled her to comfort her when the song ended, Stephen's swanky wedding Nikes (with pink accents), Jumari's second entrance in her gorgeous (and sexy) reception gown, the dance floor filled all night with so many talented dancers (I cannot hear salsa without moving my hips so I was the dork half-dancing behind my camera), and above all, the warmth and laughter and love and rich tradition in that room--it was impossible to stand at the edge of that dance floor and not smile. Thank you Jumari and Stephen, for giving me access into your wonderful circle of friends and family, and allowing me to document such a beautiful day in your lives.

They are both leading whirlwind busy lives, but are placing exteme importance on their autumn nuptials...We talked about everything: school, careers, their travels, their families, their "story," the way in which they plan to honor their Jewish heritage at their Stevens Estate wedding, their detailed search for the perfect venue (and vendor line up :), their ideas for wedding photography (yes! I am especially excited about a couple who places importance on the wedding photos, and goes into the process of working with creatively!)...We had good food, good wine, and awesome conversation--and after that first meeting, I had already fallen for these two, and could hardly wait for our enagement session adventure...And sure enough, it was one! We wanted to achieve the full gamut of backgrounds, so we first got our "waterfront," fix at the wonderful, unique setting of Boston Piers Park against the Boston skyline (water--check!, urban--check!). After we got our fill of warehouses and boats and sea scupltures, we made the last minute call to hop in the car and drive (at rush hour) all the way out of the city, to Danvers...And we reached the lovely grounds of Endicott Park and Glen Magna Farms just as the sun had reached perfection in it's descent...Dave and Alyse jumped out of the car (in new gorgeous attire) right into golden glistening October light (rustic gardens, check! Stone walls, check! Historic mansion grounds, check!)...Alyse and Dave brought along an array of fashions, and even some cool props (their Red Sox caps, the sweet memory book in which Dave cleverly popped the question), and were absolute champs, performing multiple costume changes in less than ideal locations (mostly backseat of car), climbing rusty, dirty dumpsters, and wading through thorny brush...and I think their energy and sense of adventure paid off in the photos that follow. Thank you two for your enthusiasm, for looking so fabulous, for bringing your A-game (and sense of romance), and for being up for anything, even losing an hour to rush hour...it was worth it, and I can't wait to romp around the grounds of the Stevens Estate in four months!

Storybook. "At first email." When Alyssa first wrote to me, describing briefly her love story with Barry, and how after much searching they found St. Clements (where Matt and I were married seven years ago!), the perfect place to hold the wedding--I didn't even finish reading the email before declaring, "this one shall be mine." I was already planning a late July weekend in CT before I even wrote back to her! I can't describe it. I just recognized something familiar in her--we are both romantics, teachers, and word-divas (we both use cheeky, decadent language when we write, and thus, our emails are elaborate and colorful, if a little long-winded). Luckily for me, she returned the enthusiasm, and long before we had a chance to meet, long before we had a contract, or even had a dialogue, it was settled that I would document their July wedding day. At first we planned to do an initial meeting, but as the months passed, and hectic schedules interfered, we soon settled on a meeting/engagement session rolled into one: "we'd meet, we'd greet, we'd shoot." So a February date was in place--but as fate would have it, it turned out to be the very same day of the Blizzard 2013! Engagement session Take 2 dawned frigid, windy, and cloudy, but we were determined to make it happen no matter.
As I mentioned, Alyssa and I were already penpals--email BFFs really--before we even met. So when I showed up in a coffee shop for Engagement Session Attempt 2, and there they were--Alyssa like the ray of smiling sunshine I knew she would be, and Barry fitting the "tall, dark, handsome" bill adorned by an adorable English lilt (that I barely managed to hear because Alyssa and I usurped every second of the conversation with our incessant gabbing), it was just as I knew it would be. Like I had known them for years. And within seconds of our "at long last" meeting, I had dragged them out into the Boston Commons (toward barely-there rays of filtered sunlight) and was firing away before they even had a chance to catch a breath.
Aaaand now that I have so selfishly droned on and on about MY love story with Alyssa and Barry, I suppose I should at last give the stage over to rightful stars of this show, and to THEIR love story, to THEIR beautiful, fun, sweet, adorable, perfect romance!!! And of course, the best way to do that, is with the photos! They powered through their session like ROCK STARS, despite bone-chilling temperatures and blustery-to-the-point-of-painful winds. Alyssa charmed my lens in her sassy eyelet dresses despite the cold, bravely transforming her look by changing her outfit (and footwear/scarf/jewelry)...Of course, her finest accessory was her dashing co-star, who was quietly rocking it out himself(especially in his mean leather jacket, I want one for Matt!). So without further ado, take a peek at this fashiony, fun, sweet, and so-in-love pair, my penpal Alyssa and her charming English beau!

In the last few weeks, I have been photographing my girlies more than I have in quite some time....it is so easy to snap photos with my iphone as our fast-paced life flies by, but there is nothing like capturing their light and laughter and freckles and playfulness up close with some REAL glass. Here are the loves of my life mugging for the camera on Valentines day. These two little skinny gingers amaze me every day, with their stories and observations and exhuberance and compassion, stealing my heart with their particular and beautiful personalities.

The ceremomy took place in Alyssa's hometown of Lynnfield--which also happens to be my own beloved little town! It was a pleasure getting to know Alyssa's wonderful family as everyone got ready at their home, surrounded by beautiful original art pieces everywhere you looked (heavenly). Alyssa's Marie-Antoniette inspired gown, with it's exquisite lace, fit her tiny body like a glove. GORGEOUS. With her golden hair in a artful knot at her nape and her vintage fur stole, she was transformed into a glamorous throwback starlit! The day was rich in beauty and sentiment, from the full house of friends and family bustling around (and Alyssa's dad practicing his swanky dance moves), to the Rolls Royce pulling up in front of the house against a dreamy backdrop of glittering fall colors, to the sound of bagpipes serenading Alyssa as she made her way into the church she had attended for her whole life, to Carlos' face when she walked toward him....And it only got better after the ceremony, when my fabulous assistant Felicia and I found ourselves climbing the windy roads to the reception venue, the magnificent gem on a hill that is the Crane Estate in Ipswich. The rooms of the mansion were stunning in the late afternoon light, the open doors letting the ocean breeze sail straight through and into the gallery, and the tables elegantly adorned with gorgeous floral creations by Gregory's Flower Shop. Uplighting added romance to the room as night fell, and everyone moved into the Ballroom for a dance party led by the classy James from Allstar Entertainment and Uplighting. When she was a little girl, Alyssa declared that she would one day get married at the Crane Estate, and this crystal clear autumn day couldn't have been a more perfect setting for that dream to come true. We had fun making use of the gardens and the grand view of rolling hills sweeping toward the sea for which the Crane Estate is known. It was against this backdrop that Alyssa and Carlos had the first dance, encircled by friends and family as the sun set over the ocean. Talk about a dream coming true! It was also a dream to photograph, and I am so happy to share the this story at long last...

I had kind of an "at first sight" love affair with this wedding--and with all of the people involved: the warm, welcoming families, the sweetest-ever bridesmaids, the adorable batch of groomsmen, and most importantly, the most sincere, effortlessly wonderful bride and groom. It was a perfect, crisp November day to report for duty in the Seaport Disctrict, and when I found myself in Kyla's suite, I was immediately surrounded by a wonderful chaos of friends and family members, makeup and hair preparations in every corner, and an air of laughter and closeness, clutter and excitement--the best kind of environment to kick off a wedding day. Both Kyla's mom and dad pulled her in for an affectionate squeeze within my first half hour there (at separate times), and this, along with how obviously adored Kyla is by her friends just said so much about Kyla's circle of support, and most importantly, about the couple they were there to honor. Kyla has a quiet, graceful nature, and she was so considerate, bringing me into the conversation, and making me feel welcome (I can't say enough how much this means to me). Hence, the warm fuzzies set in right away, and that feeling was with me for the rest of the day. I was lucky to be able to hop into the limo with the girls, and look out the window and watch my alma mater (B.U.) and many familiar spots pass we drove through the heart of the city and into Brookline on the way to the church. The ceremony at the beautiful St. Mary's of the Assumption was officiated by Kyla's uncle, a fact which added to the sentiment of the day. After stopping on the way back along Memorial Drive for some photos along the Charles, we made it back to the Seaport World Trade Center Boston, for the rest of the festivities. First we took advantage of the many interesting locations outside World Trade Center for photos, like the bridge over-looking the city skyline and the many stone archways of the historic Trade Center building itelf. Then it was into the hotel for the reception festivities; the warm fuzzies were still with me deep into the night, as Chad swept his bride into his arms and around the dance floor that was packed all night. It was just one of those satisfying days; Chad and Kyla and their guests stole my heart (seriously, Kyla, you had the sweetest, friendliest, most darling bridesmaids ever!). Thank you for making me feel so welcome, K & C; it was a wonderful honor, and I hope the photos help to bring it all rushing back.

and I want Renee to see her slideshow and be able to share it on Christmas! I am not one for brevity when journaling my weddings, so I am going to attempt to use some
restraint. This one is so easy to chronicle! Within minutes of meeting Renee over tea
in my dining room well over a year ago, I knew that I was going to adore this gal. Most notably, she is a photographer! So of course, she and I immediately connected on an aesthetic level. But not only that. Renee is one of those women who just has a light and warmth about her. She and Andrew both grew up in North Andover, and have been together since high school, so theirs is a love that has already proven the test of time. There were too many sweet, memorable touches to name! First of all, Renee was so artistic and refreshing in her approach (she is a visual artist, I would expect nothing less!), and she incorporated the most wonderful natural colors and textures into her wedding. She incorporated the natural beauty of New England woodlands, like barks and branches and pine cones and greenery. Her bouquet was all natural, with spraying greenery, berries, stones, wisps of grasses, and cream roses. Stunning. And it paired so beautifully with the autumn olive of her attendants' dresses. Highlights for me were the thoughtful touches...the heart cut from a tee shirt of a friend who passed away sewn inside the skirt of her dress. The emotion in the room when Renee came downstairs and her father saw her in her dress for the first time. Renee's parents wiping tears and holding hands during the vows. Andrew's father and brothers emulating the poses while I was doing some sassy shots with the bridesmaids. The light in Renee's golden hair, while she gazed at Andrew among the tall grasses in October evening sunlight (in every way, Renee was golden and glittering, her hair, her eyes, her smile)...and countless others. The ceremony took place at St. Michael's in North Andover, and it just so happened to be my third wedding there! It is a beautiful sanctuary, and the October sun came pouring through the many windows, lighting the altar where Renee and Andrew stood facing each other. After they exchanged vows before a tearful audience, they jumped into their party bus and headed to the Haverhill Country Club for their reception! The room was stunning, with flowers interspersed with fruit and vegetables, bark and birch artfully holding the place cards and arrangements, pine cones scattered at the base of the cake that was made to look like a birch tree, with their names carved into it (like no other I've seen yet). One of the most notable aspects of the reception was that friends had hired a band to play reception. I had the pleasure of dining with the fellas of Green Line Inbound, and found each of them to be wonderfully charming--so when they got up there and actually started playing and busting out these SICK harmonies, I was completely blown away. Seriously, the talent coming from that stage was tremendous (here is where I plug the heck out of them--they usually play the club scene rather than the wedding circuit, but if you want your wedding to ROCK, you have to take a look at these guys!). Another highlight of the reception was the most UNIQUE maid of honor toast ever. Renee's best friend/college roommate, a little spitfire, with a heavenly head of rich red curls, got up there and SANG her toast. She changed the lyrics from Taylor Swift's "Love Story" and made them fit Renee and Andrew'story, and she rocked it out karaoke style--amazing. And then everyone hit the dance floor, and rocked out to Green Line Inbound all night--every family member was on that dance floor, even grandparents! Now that I have defied my earlier plan to use restraint in writing this, I will sign off. I am sure I have missed some of the day's sweet, meaningful moments, but I want to get this published so Renee and Andrew can wake up to it on Christmas morning! Besides, the photos kind of speak for themselves...Congratulations Renee and Andrew, it was such an honor. I wish you two a beautiful lifetime together!

Shannon and Matt's autumn Rhode Island wedding almost had too many of these aspects to recount! It was a day rich in tradition, in family, in sentiment, and from the moment that my assistant Felicia and I arrived on the scene, we were swept away by these two absolutely lovely people and their wonderful circle of love and support. First we visited Matt, where he and his fellas were dressing. There was so much to capture in that room, from the solemnity of Matt laying out his Marines uniform, to the laughter with which his buddy "styled" his hair with hair spray. One of the highlights for me was when one of the groomsmen picked up a guitar and started singing and playing. He was looking down at a crumpled piece of paper, with words scrawled all over it. I realized they were the lyrics he was singing; it turned out he had written a song for Shannon and Matt, about their story, and the promise of their marriage. Neither Matt not Shannon knew about this gesture. Shannon got ready at her parents' house, and when she handed out gifts to her bridesmaids, there was not a dry eye in the room. I remember thinking about how much this said about Shannon--it is obvious that the warmth and kindness and sense of
giving in her permeates all aspects of her life. After more tearful moments shared with her parents, and some lovely portraits in the doorway, Shannon climbed into her uncle's shiny, classy antique Chevy (it was YELLOW, and I couldn't keep my lens off of it!). He chauffeured her around in it all day, and even let me drive it at one point so I could move it to a better spot for photos. Another very dear moment was when we stopped at Shannon's grandparents' home on the way to the church. Shannon's grandfather is ill, and was unable to attend the wedding, so she brought a piece of
the wedding to him! His face absolutely lit up when his granddaughter appeared in his
living room, it was so sweet to see. His nurses had gotten him all spiffed up to see
Shannon and have his picture taken with her. Then it was off to the ceremony! Shannon
and Matt have a strong faith and are very active in the Catholic church, so committing to one another before God though the sacrament of marriage was very meaningful for them. Speaking to this was the fact that Shannon and Matt had FIVE priests up on the altar, taking turns to officiate their marriage rite--very impressive! Needless to say, their marriage is exceptionally blessed! After the ceremony we went to this wonderful piece of conservation land on the Rhode Island coast called Save the Bay Exploration center, a gem Shannon and her mom had come across while looking for places to go for photos. And with it's tall sea grasses, wildflowers, and views of the bay, it couldn't have been a better find. We were the only souls there. It was overcast but dry, and with the waving grasses and barges passing in the distance, it was the perfect setting to capture the tenderness that is so natural between Shannon and Matt. As soon as we wrapped up shooting, it was off to the venue, the Rhodes on the Pawtuxet. The ballroom was stunning, the cathedral ceiling dappled with lanterns, and Shannon and Matt made a grand entrance during the sword ceremony performed by Matt's fellow Marines. And what a party followed; the dance floor was packed all night, with Shannon and Matt at the center, surrounded by a circle of love and support. It was such a satisfying day to witness. This was just one of those couples. One of those love stories. One of those weddings that makes you believe in the strength of spirituality and connection and true love. It was the kind of day that confirmed to me that I have the most fulfilling job in the world. Shannon and Matt, it is obvious to me that you have a strong marriage ahead, rich in faith, loyalty, compassion and family--and I wish you a beautiful start to a lifetime together!
